Lorenzo Music (of Garfield fame) was great as Dr.Peter Venkmann. It used to air at Saturday evenings here at 6:30pm after Star Rangers (the English dub of Himitsu Sentai Goranger, the very first and one of the best ‘Power Rangers’ series.)Īs for the animated versions, I definitely preferred the Real Ghostbusters, if only because it was written better than The Original Ghostbusters cartoon. I remember the live action Ghost Busters that had an opening scene that mocks Mission: Impossible. Nice to know about the Real Ghostbusters and the Filmation version. I guess the ro-beast stalled long enough.Īnyway, I was disappointed I missed that episode. A cousin of mine told me that that happened in one episode. When they go past five minutes, power gets depleted, all 15 spaceships separate and Voltron falls apart. Oh, one other weakness, which I thought was interesting, was that Voltron can only be in robot mode for five minutes, tops. The risk of losing one member/the probability, is greater than a team that consists of only five pilots.

The biggest disadvantage is probably the large number of pilots they need to complete Voltron. I know Pidge, who commandeers the Green Lion, has a fraternal twin in the Voltron spaceships, who also wears glasses.Īnyway, the Voltron 15 spaceships was also pretty cool. Two Voltrons side by side fighting the common enemy. They did a special on Voltron Lions and Voltron “Spaceships” (as my friends and I called it in the 80s). Wolff: Emergency repair procedure number one.Ĭhalmers: You kicked it?“The gutter in here is wide and deep… and all seem to be in it…”-HT Halfwalf through its run Filmation altered its show’s title card to read “The Original” in small print above the main logo.Īs far as air dates go Filmation’s beat the Real Ghostbusters by all of 5 days. Both companies ended up airing their shows in 1986 often on the same channel, even back to back.

This allowed Columbia to name their show “The Real Gostbusters”. During the settlement filmation goofed by not demanding sole rights to a cartoon. They settled out of court with Filmation getting money in exchange for letting Columbia use the name Ghostbusters for things outside of the film. Columbia decided to walk away so Filmation sued them in 1985.
#ROBOTEK CARTOONS 80 MOVIE#
The Bill Murray Ghostbusters movie was already into production under Columbia pictures when this was discovered so they paid Filmation for the name rights.Īfter the film was released in 1984 Filmation was going to work with Columbia on a series based on it. Did I miss anything?Ībout “Fake” Ghostbusters, did this cartoon (two guys and a gorilla with funny-looking guns) precede the Ghostbusters movie starring Bill Murray, which was released in 1984?įilmation’s Ghostbusters series was based on a live action series from the 70’s. Heathcliff and friends (Mongo, Cleo, Words Worth, Hector) Fat Albert and Friends (but I think this was 70s)Ģ3. Silver Hawks (they got Thunder Cats, so we’ll let that go)Ģ2. Saturday Supercade (Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, and other video game characters)ġ8. Spider-Man and Amazing Friends (or Spider-Friends - Iceman and Firestar)ġ7.
#ROBOTEK CARTOONS 80 UPGRADE#
Super Powers (next upgrade to Challenge of the Super Friends)ġ4. Voltron spaceships (15 parts to make Voltron, but since they got Voltron lions we’ll let that go)ġ3. Robotix (goes along with Big Foot and Jem)ġ2. Robotech 2nd and 3rd gens (but since they put in 1st Gen/Macross we’ll let that go).ġ1. Cartoon about dogs that have to find their way home (forgot the title)ħ. The Littles (I still remember the song in my head)Ħ.

I guess it’s hard to cram everything in nine minutes. They pretty much got the gist of the 80s cartoons.
